Mine

“A dream is a wish your heart makes” – Cinderella
What do you dream of? What are your hopes? What do you wish for?

My kids, my angels
What will they be?
Who will they be?

One thing they will be

Mine
This is my first submission to the Miniature Writing Challenge at An Artist at Heart

Hello there, Have we met?

Hello there, Have we met?

Ahoy me hearties! I’ve been so preoccupied lately, I forgot I had a blog. Not really but when life does what it does best and everything piles in, sometimes you just need a self-enforced time-out. That’s not to say I haven’t gotten lost in the time suck of social media but I have also been reading a lot more here lately. I’ll give you a brief glimpse into my recent library.

Beth Teliho’s wonderful YA book, Order of Seven was a breath of fresh air and full of suspense, enough so that I had trouble finding a stopping point to put it down. I didn’t want to miss anything and I wanted to find out what was going to happen next.

Kimberly Jayne’s Take my Husband Please was a light-hearted look at divorce. Her describing the bumbling accidents made me laugh out loud but also made my poor klutzy heart feel better knowing maybe I’m not the only person who has endured self-inflicted injuries.

Then there is the incomparable Helena Hann-Basquiat. What can be said about her books? Only that they are incredible, well written, thought provoking and sometimes funny as all get out! The two most recent by her that I read was Leaving Arcadia and Penelope, Countess of Arcadia. Coming from and living mostly in small towns, I identified with Leaving Arcadia. We have all known families like these and wether they were friends or just the family everyone knew about, you knew their stories and you always hoped things would work out for the best and when they didn’t, you just shake your head and “tsk, tsk” the injustice, knowing it will never change and wondering what is wrong in this world.

Penelope was written as a Shakespearian type play. It was fun to read and I found myself re-reading portions just to get the “voice” right. Seeing modern phrases written in language like that made it that much more fun.

The other reading I have been doing is lots of poetry. Hastywords, Laura A Lord, T.A. Woods, just to name a few. The problem with reading poetry is I get words rattling around in my head and I find myself trying to make them make sense (unsuccessfully, mostly), but the following group of words (I won’t call it a poem, seem like an insult) won’t leave me alone so I wrote them down (and typed them out too)! So I’ll add this one to some of the other terrible poetry I have posted here on this journey. Feel free to critique, all suggestions, good bad and indifferent, are welcome.
What has happened

Just tried to keep pace

When did my life

Become such a race
The weeks fly by

The months a blur

The calendar flashes

The years that were
Life and love

Family and friends

Pursuit of happiness

When does it end
I’ve hit the wall

Out of gas

Spinning my wheels

Going nowhere fast
When the final is written

And my story is read

Will my checkered past fly

Like a flag overhead

The Country Life

The Country Life

Slice of blue
In a low, grey sky
Hint of a rainbow
Trying to peek through

Lone tree standing
Like a guard
In the middle
Of a lush, green field

Cows parading
To the back of the pasture
There is a truck there
Must be feeding time

Smell of fresh cut hay
Still damp with dew
Last years’ rolls
Along the fence await

In the morning
A cardinal’s call
Trying to awaken
A sleeping world

At night
The cicadas call
An owl whispers
Another answers

The world I live in
The sights, the sounds
You might not understand
But I would take no other

Here is your favorite pirate on another short shore leave to regale you with adventure!
Yes my friends, the poetry bug bit me again! I had this rattling around in my head so I thought I would subject you to it so you could suffer along with me. Still not doing a lot of writing but trying to do a little better everyday. Hope this finds everyone well and enjoying whatever adventure life throws your way. Till my next shore leave, may the sun keep shining and the wind keep your sails full!

The Musician

The Musician

Today’s entry is in response to the weekly writing prompt at “Feral Little Secrets”. Poetry is not my strong suit but I’m brave enough to try! This poem was inspired my dear darling son who plays trombone in middle school band. He did so great last year and he says he’s going to keep at it!

So without further ado, I present to you…………..

The Musician

The air is charged with energy
Can you feel it?
The passion, the fury
The beauty, the wonder

Your heart beats faster
Harder, pounding now
Somewhere, someone
Asks a question

Are you ready?
The sounds become muffled
Until that moment
The sound erupts

From your instrument
The sound comes
Clear and full
You are making music, beautiful music

Walking Away (A Poem)

Walking Away (A Poem)

I understand now
What you were trying to say
I did not see it
Till you went away

Don’t walk away from me he says
But I know no other way
I want you to stay he says
But I just walk away

Do you say what you mean
Do you mean what you say
Help me understand
Just don’t go away

I don’t know what to say
He wants me in his life
But I can only walk away
I can not be his wife

We can get through this
Slowly day by day
Together we can
Each and every day

What can I do
I can not say
I know not what to do
So I just walk away

I don’t write poetry very often but every once in a while, something gets to rattling around in my head (sort of like a marble in a shoe box) and I have to try and work it out. Hopefully this makes more sense to you it does to me.

This is my contribution this week to the Creative Buzz Hop!! This week’s topic is choice! Thanks Tamara and crew for having me again!!
